Human Service Forum Breakfast: Current status of COVID-19 in Western MA

As the one year anniversary of the first COVID-19 case in Western MA has come and gone, we continue to see the impact of the virus throughout our community. Join HSF as we present a keynote discussing the current status and impact of COVID-19 in Western Mass. We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Robert Roose, Chief Medical Officer at Mercy Medical Center  and Dr. Andrew W. Artenstein, M.D. Chief Physician Executive and Chief Academic Officer, Baystate Health to this event to discuss testing and screening, health disparity, infection rate updates, vaccination, and more.

*There will be networking available after the Keynote and Q&A with private breakout rooms provided upon request. The meeting will open at 7:45am with the program beginning promptly at 8:00am

 

Speakers:

Dr. Robert Roose, MD, MPH, FASAM

Chief Medical Officer, Mercy Medical Center, Trinity Health of New England

Robert Roose, MD, MPH, FASAM, is currently serving as the Chief Medical Officer of Mercy Medical Center and its affiliates in Springfield, Massachusetts. Dr. Roose has been affiliated with Trinity Health’s regional health ministry since 2013, having held the positions of Chief of Addiction Medicine and Recovery Services of Trinity Health Of New England, Vice President of Behavioral Health at Mercy Medical Center and Chief Medical Officer of Addiction and Recovery Services for the Sisters of Providence Health System. During his time with Trinity Health, Dr. Roose has spearheaded the expansion and renovation of opioid treatment programs, developed new partnerships with community providers, opened a clinical stabilization service, and integrated addiction care into inpatient units and emergency departments. His goal has been to help transform care so that people can receive high-quality care – when they need it, where they need it, and how they need it. Dr. Roose earned his Doctor of Medicine and Master in Public Health degrees at George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences in Washington D.C. and completed his residency training at Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx, NY.

 

Dr. Andrew W. Artenstein, M.D.

Chief Physician Executive and Chief Academic Officer, Baystate Health

Dr. Artenstein oversees the academic and clinical enterprises of Baystate Health (BH), the largest, regionally integrated, academic health system in western Massachusetts and one that is nationally recognized for population health and quality outcomes.  He is also the President of Baystate Medical Practices, the academic provider group of Baystate Health comprising 1,050 providers with 90 clinical practices across 50 sites of service.  Baystate Health trains 380 residents and fellows annually and much of this training occurs in an interdisciplinary, team-based environment in concert with more than 1,100 nursing and allied health professions student from more than 100 programs.  He received his undergraduate education at the University of Rochester, Rochester, NY and his M.D. at Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston.  He completed a residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in infectious diseases at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center and the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research, both in Washington D.C.  He served as a medical officer in the U.S. Army for ten years and prior to joining BH in 2012, he spent more than a decade at the Alpert Medical School of Brown University in Providence, RI where he served as the Physician-in-Chief at Memorial Hospital of RI and as the Founding Director of the Center for Biodefense and Emerging Pathogens.
